Second Chance Strings

A program of the ISO's Metropolitan Youth Orchestra that teaches adults/students with little or no musical experience how to play a string instrument in an hour!

We developed Second Chance Strings to build community, encourage intergenerational fellowship, empower children, and bring groups of people from various backgrounds together to accomplish a common goal through music.

About the Program

Participants will meet and play side by side with our MYO students. Our young musicians, teachers, and staff will welcome each guest as a part of our extended family and engage everyone in learning and laughter. It is truly remarkable to provide an experience for adults in a way that visibly brings delight, and equally so to see kids empowered and confident. It’s also just plain fun!

Second Chance Strings concludes with a brief performance of the piece we’ve learned together, and rounded out with our students and teachers playing their own parts. Finally, we share a meal to celebrate the successes experienced together. Start to finish, the event manages to be both grand and charming, establishing lasting connections between MYO students and guests.
