Second Chance Strings
A program of the ISO's Metropolitan Youth Orchestra that teaches adults/students with little or no musical experience how to play a string instrument in an hour!
We developed Second Chance Strings to build community, encourage intergenerational fellowship, empower children, and bring groups of people from various backgrounds together to accomplish a common goal through music.
About the Program
Participants will join our MYO students for a side-by-side musical experience. Our young musicians, teachers, and staff will warmly welcome each guest into our extended family, creating an environment full of learning and laughter. It’s a truly special moment to see adults enjoying the experience with visible delight, while also watching kids grow in confidence and empowerment. And of course, it’s simply a lot of fun!
The event concludes with a brief performance of the piece we’ve worked on together, rounded out with our students and teachers playing their more advanced parts. We’ll then celebrate our collective successes over a shared meal. From start to finish, the event is both impressive and heartwarming, fostering meaningful connections between MYO students and guests.
