Musician Bio
Jon Crabiel is Percussion Artist-in-Residence and Senior Lecturer at Butler University, where he serves as coordinator of percussion studies, director of the Butler percussion ensemble and instructor of courses in percussion pedagogy, literature, and world drumming. In addition, he is director and founder of the Butler Percussion Camp. In 2017, Jon took a one-year leave from Butler to serve as Acting Assistant Principal Timpani/Percussion with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC.
Since 2000, Jon has been a first-call extra/substitute percussion, timpani and drum set with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, Naples Philharmonic Orchestra, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Empire Brass, Dance Kaleidoscope and national tour Broadway productions. An active performer, clinician and educator, Jon serves annually as percussion coach of the Music for All Honor Orchestra of America and Masterclass Clinician for the Music for All National Concert Festival. Mr. Crabiel has presented clinics and made solo appearances at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, Midwest Band and Orchestra International Conference, and Indiana Music Educators Association Convention. Jon is a Yamaha Performing Artist and endorses Yamaha Drums and Percussion, Vic Firth Drumsticks, Remo Drumheads and Zildjian Cymbals.
