Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Engages Cultural Advocacy Firm GANGGANG for New Approach to Curation, including Two Exhibitions in Historic Hilbert Circle Theatre

INDIANAPOLIS— The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and GANGGANG are delighted to announce two captivating exhibitions, on display now through November 16, 2024, in the Oval Promenade and Wood Room at the historic Hilbert Circle Theatre. GANGGANG will oversee the curation and installation of the work for both exhibitions, a first-time collaboration with the ISO.

During February 2024 All-Star weekend, GANGGANG curated the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s 2nd floor exhibition to appeal to their growing diverse and younger audience. That exhibition welcomed the spring performance season and is a testament to the spirit of new beginnings and investment in our city’s artistic talent. These current contemporary exhibitions are GANGGANG’s and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s continued exploration of bridging audiences and developing Indy’s visual arts scene.

“These exhibitions celebrate the remarkable contributions of BIPOC artists to Indianapolis’ vibrant cultural landscape, reinforcing the ISO’s dedication to enriching the patron experience with transformative artistic encounters,” said Elias Garza, Exhibitions Manager at GANGGANG.

“The ISO is delighted to partner with GANGGANG, whose innovative and groundbreaking initiatives are creating exciting and equitable opportunities for artists regionally and nationally.  Both the ISO and GANGGANG share a commitment to build community connections within and around the arts. The ISO looks forward to future collaborations that bring the visual arts and symphonic music together,” said James Johnson, CEO, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

The collaboration features two exhibitions on display in the Oval Promenade and Wood Room at the Hilbert Circle Theatre. Artwork is available for purchase. Hector Del Campo: Perennial Topographies is a selection of artworks by Indianapolis-based artist Hector Del Campo, whose vibrant compositions reflect a rich interplay between color and narrative. Del Campo’s art, deeply rooted in the tradition of street art, is profoundly influenced by his Cuban American heritage. Through a masterful blend of painting, drawing, and collage, his pieces delve into the intricate dualities of heritage and environment.

Self-serenades presents a compelling selection of paintings by contemporary Black artists. These works range in styles and techniques, highlighting the work of several BUTTER artists’ personal journey and vision. Through their art, these artists pay homage to themselves, their loved ones, and their communities, affirming that true power and beauty arise from within and from the cherished bonds that uplift us. Exhibiting Artists: Lyndy Bazile (Fort Wayne, IN), Tasha Beckwith (Indianapolis, IN), Cortney Herron (Los Angeles, CA), Amiah Mims (Indianapolis, IN), and Kyng Rhodes (Indianapolis, IN).
