This unique instrument is quite rare and not often used in modern-day orchestral settings, but recently one was featured in the ISO’s performance of Ravel’s Rapsodie Espagnole. One of our summer interns, Talli Duckworth, sat down with ISO Assistant Principal Bassoon Mark Ortwein, who owns and played the sarrusophone featured in that piece, to learn more.
