Classical Jam with the ISO

A program for adult musicians and educators to spend an evening rehearsing, performing, and hanging out with the ISO!

Last night I fulfilled a lifelong dream - to play with the ISO on the Hilbert Circle Theatre stage… It was an inspiring night of creating beautiful music and it was special sharing it with so many music teacher & music friends from the Indy area.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to rehearse and play with the ISO on the Hilbert Circle Theatre stage? Classical Jam is your chance to rehearse, mingle, and perform with with ISO! Our Assistant Conductor will lead rehearsal with you and ISO members playing side by side. A rehearsal break and reception allows you to mingle with your musical colleagues before returning to the stage for a casual performance of the piece.

This is a 21+ event with a participation fee of $45 to be paid by cash, check, or card. A discounted rate of $35 will be available for educators. Orchestral parts are assigned on a first come, first served basis (no audition required). Acceptance is limited to space available, and your assignment will be confirmed via email.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who should apply for Classical Jam?

If you are an adult (21+) who plays an orchestral instrument and would love to play with the ISO at the Hilbert Circle Theatre, this is for you! Classical Jam is an opportunity created for educators and adult musicians to experience a day with the ISO.

How many players will the ISO accept?

Our goal is to include as many participants as we can and still comfortably accommodate both ISO musicians and participants together in the orchestra. Space will be limited. Should we run out of space to play, you’re welcome to join us as an observer.

What is the repertoire?

Typically, we perform a movement of a major symphonic work. Previous Jams have performed movements from Mahler Symphony No. 1 (“Titan”), Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 6 (PathĂ©tique), “Mars” and “Jupiter” from Holst’s The Planets, and more. This year, we will be performing Beethoven Symphony No. 7, Mvt 1 and Brahms Hungarian Dance No. 1!

Is there a cost to participate?

Yes. The cost is $45 and can be paid by cash, check, or card. A discounted rate of $35 will be available for educators. Refreshments will be available during the event.

What should I bring? How should I dress?

Bring your instrument! If you play a large percussion instrument, we will provide everything but the sticks/mallets. Practice parts will be provided electronically ahead of time, but music will be placed on your stand before your arrival on the night of your Jam. This is a casual evening, so feel free to dress comfortably!
