Musician Bio
Tanavi Prabhu joined the Indianapolis Symphony as second oboist in 2024. Prior to moving to Indianapolis, she was an oboe fellow at the New World Symphony in Miami Beach. She has
performed with the Chicago Symphony, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Hawaii Symphony, and Houston Symphony and toured with the Knights Chamber Orchestra, playing concerts in New York, Chicago, and Tanglewood.
During her summers, Tanavi has attended music festivals including Music Academy of the West and the Aspen Music Festival. At the 2019 Colorado College Summer Music Festival, she was a winner of the annual concerto competition and performed as a soloist with the orchestra. More recently, Tanavi has returned to Miami Beach during the summer as a teacher at the VIA Academy summer festival for high school students.
Tanavi studied with Jonathan Blumenfeld before receiving her bachelor’s degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where she was a student of Robert Walters. She then continued her studies at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music under the tutelage of Robert Atherholt earning a master’s degree.
